Fine Art

I am a contemporary landscape artist working from my studio in Upper Farringdon, Hampshire.

Whilst I am largely self-taught, I was lucky to receive incredible art teaching whilst at school and spent many hours painting and creating in the art school over my A-levels.  I went on to gain a degree in the History of Modern Art, Design and Film, whilst continuing to be creative, taking various courses and experimenting in sculpture, painting, print making and pottery.  In more recent years, I have concentrated my artistic practise on painting in both water colours and acrylics and continued to develop my skills, taking part in various artist led courses as well as at colleges such as West Dean College of Art and St Ives School of Painting.

I have two quite distinct styles. When creating a “house portrait” commission, I enjoy working in precise detail, combining expressive pen and ink mark making with relatively subtle water colour washes.

When working in acrylic and mixed media, I focus less on the fine detail and more on the nuance of the British landscape through the use of bold colour choices and intuitive brushstrokes, with a particular emphasis on big skies.

Having been brought up in Scotland, the Highlands and West Coast provide enduring inspiration for my work, as well as the stunning landscape and coastline around my home in Hampshire.
