Interior Design

My approach

As an Interior Design consultant, I work alongside my clients in a relaxed, collaborative and un-intimidating style, helping them to navigate their way through the interior design process, introducing fresh ideas whilst respecting each clients’ individual style and taste.  “Coaching” them to make their own design decisions ensures that the end result truly reflects the personality and individuality of each client.

“Susannah’s appreciation of colour and what works well, was exceptional”.

I am led by my clients in terms of budget, strongly believing that even with a smaller budget, you can make a huge difference to the look and feel of your home using a mix of bespoke, upcycled, existing pieces and High Street items.

I am also guided by them on what areas they would like to focus on and can advise on all aspects of interior decoration including colour schemes, window treatments and soft furnishings, furniture, accessories and art work, layouts and storage, floor coverings and finishes.

I particularly enjoy working on smaller projects whether the focus is on a single room or particular aspects throughout the home such as paint colours or general colour schemes. I offer total flexibility in terms of time scales, preferring not to work to fixed project timescales, rather working at the pace of each client.

I work closely with a local curtain maker to offer a full make-up service of bespoke soft furnishings including Roman blinds, curtains, cushions and lampshades and can supply a variety of furniture, lighting and accessories, utilising my trade accounts, passing on favourable discounts where possible.

How it works

I offer two Starter Packages – Room Remedy and Home Remedy – in addition to Ongoing Support.

“Room Remedy” Starter Session:

Ideally suited to those who want to focus on a particular room in their home.

How does it work?

I offer an initial free, no obligation telephone consultation, where we will discuss which room you would like to focus on and what aspects you would like to change or achieve. For example:

  • Do you want to brighten it up with new paint colours, curtains or accessories?
  • Would you like to make better use of the space?
  • Does the furniture you have work for you and do you have enough storage?
  • Do you want to bring more of your own personality to it?
  • Have you considered what budget you have to make changes?

Assuming you would like to proceed, the next step is to create a mood board on Pinterest or Houzz (I will guide you on how to approach this exercise and which resources to refer to for inspiration). From this we will gain a greater understanding of your style and tastes. I will then research some different ideas and prepare for our consultation.

I will come to your home for a two hour consultation. Depending on the focus of your project, I will bring a variety of samples of fabrics, wallpapers, rugs and paint cards, which we will look at alongside our mood board which will guide us on potential colour schemes and style looks.  I also have a bank of online images of lighting, furniture and accessories.

Together we will begin piecing together initial thoughts for your design as well as look at the best use of space, furniture layouts and storage as appropriate.

Following our consultation, I will put together a detailed scheme sheet (a kind of design shopping list), detailing every aspect of the design that needs addressing. This can be used as a working document to progress the project and sign off all design decisions.

By the end of this stage, you will have greater clarity on the scheme you would like to pursue and how best to achieve and implement your vision.

For some, this will be all the help you need to progress your project yourself but for those who would like more assistance, please see “Ongoing Support” below.

Price for Room Remedy Starter Session: £150

“Home Remedy” Starter Session:

For those who want to focus on their whole house rather than a particular room.

This works in much the same way as the Room Remedy, beginning with an initial free, no obligation telephone consultation where we will discuss what you are hoping to achieve in your home and the areas that you would like assistance with.

We will also start working on a mood board before I come to you for a two hour consultation, where we will spend the time looking around your home, discussing the functions of each room, how you want to use them and the best use of space. We can discuss in greater detail your vision for the overall interior design and come up with some initial ideas and suggestions for a potential scheme.

How we progress from here will discussed at our consultation. For some, this will be enough to give you the confidence and tools to pursue the re-design yourself, but for those who require more ongoing support, please see below.

“Ongoing Support”:

For those who would like more Ongoing Support, I would be delighted to continue working alongside you to help you achieve, drive forward and implement your vision. Ongoing support also gives you access to my trade suppliers from whom I can often pass on favourable discounts.

Following on from our Starter consultation, I will put together a project proposal letter outlining my understanding of what you are hoping to achieve with your re-design, the areas that we plan to focus on, our next steps and my fee proposal (which is usually based on my hourly rate).

Ongoing Support still allows you the flexibility to choose what and when you require help and our scheme sheet will evolve and develop as your project progresses.

Price for Ongoing Support: £65 per hour.

No work will be undertaken without prior approval from you, so you remain in control of your budget at all times.

All work undertaken will be subject to my general terms of business which will be provided upon commencement of work.
